and what she's done for us, you know? there's some things about my mom that i might not agree with, but more and more, i see myself becoming like her as i grow up in a positive way. she's so caring and so loving for us. sorry. i know that, like, if she can bring me the world that she would, and i just know i can pay back my mom, because even though, like, we didn't have a lot, she, like, always made sure karate was paid for and that i had that outlet. so, yeah, i really love my family. melendez: don't let her hit you at all, tecia. just stick. there you go. fire back. got to fire back. first fight is gonna be tecia torres versus randa markos. and our game plan against randa is to keep it on the feet.

push at him, get some combos. markos' definitely best strength is on the ground. she likes to bum-rush against the fence. pitter patters will score points for you. tecia -- i told her take her time, pick her apart, just pace herself, and then we'll do her barrage of punches. don't give her a chance to get up on top of you or take you down. go for it, girls. now that i've been here and i've been training with these girls, i feel like i've been dominant on every single girl that i've trained with on my team. they're tough girls and they're great, but i just believe i'm a step above them. i'm so sorry. that was really, really hard. i'm so sorry. so i feel great fighting randa markos. she was ranked number 14 and i was ranked third, but there's no pressure. i do have great striking. i'm probably one of the better strikers here. melendez: there you go. so i'm pretty sure she's gonna just try to go for a takedown, and i believe i'll be able to stuff it. nice. man: good job. just keep it standing, where i like the fight to be. my coaches tell me fight smart, fight deadly,

6:06 pm
and i moved to canada when i was 3 years old. well, when we escaped, we went to, like, jordan. the war started in 1988, '89 was iraq and iran, so we decided to escape. but when we did that, we went through hell. we had to go from one town to another, staying in, like, churches and eating people's scraps. if we never left, my life would have been completely different. it's so crazy. like, i wouldn't be the person i am right now. yeah, i probably would have been either killed or put in jail. we were held hostage. my mom -- like, one story she told me, there were seven young men -- they were around 20 years old. they would help me, my brother, my sister out. they'd feed us, get us clothing, you know, 'cause we were all, like, held captive together. and one day, all those seven men, they lined them up and shot them all in front of her, and she was just like, "wow. that could have been us." but at least we got out. like, my poor grandma and grandpa still live there, and, like, they don't have air-conditioning. they don't have clean water. they don't have food.

6:10 pm
i think randa could possibly win this fight. pettis: i'm confident in my team. i think randa's gonna get the job done. tough first fight for her in tecia torres. randa has her work cut out for her, and she can really leave a dent on their team right away. if we can eliminate their first pick with our first win, i think that changes the whole momentum of the season. if the sidekick's coming, sweep or get far away. man, you want to be behind her, too. so when you sweep, come in behind her so you can take her back, you can scramble from there. she's scrappy. we know tecia is a shorter fighter, very powerful sidekicks, so we really want to defend that sidekick, 'cause tecia's very athletic. she'll look for the takedown. and randa's more -- she's longer, she's in your face, and we just wanted to build her punching. short kick. land a couple punches. randa, pow! boom! and get her on the cage and take her down, control the top position as much as possible, and we should be able to win the fight. markos: before i came here, i had a few people tell me
6:11 pm
that they think that tecia might win the whole thing. and i'm like, "okay, well, i'm going to this house, "and now i have to fight her first, and we're the first fight." so definitely i feel like there's a lot of people underestimating me. but i think i'm gonna show them after this fight that, you know, just watch out. good job, girl. once i get in the cage, i unleash all the anger inside, and i just, like, attack. aah! randa markos, let's show the world that strawweights can fight. miller invented lite beer, the original 96 calorie pilsner, and that changed everything. this led to fewer guys with beer bellies. ...which led to more women attracted to those guys ...which led to dates, second dates, wedding bells, and honeymoons... ...which led to hubbada hubbada... boom! which led to you. miller lite, we invented lite beer,

tecia should be successful in this fight. she should be able to do what she wants, but the best bet is to keep it on the feet, stick and move. boom! and we're not here to mess around. we're here to win. pettis: you have time. don't rush the submission. you've got time to get it. it's 10 minutes long. pettis: i'm very comfortable with randa. i think her mind-set, she's like this quiet girl, but she has this attitude about her that you know she means business. and i think if she uses her reach well and uses that to get in the clinch, we should be able to handle business. [ indistinct pep talk ] markos: when i'm walking up to the cage, i'm usually nervous. if you ask any of my coaches, i'm, like, ridiculously nervous, like shaking and just like, "i can't believe i'm doing this. i can't believe i'm doing this."
