RVZ - Nintendo GameCube (Redump) - USA Set (2021-07-02)
Format Settings (default):
Format: RVZ
Block Size: 128KiB
Compression: Zstandard
Compression Level: 5
Junk Data it's preserved
Why I used the default compression settings?
"RVZ with the default settings achieves the most optimal balance between compression ratio and playability. Or if you want to save as much space as possible, RVZ with LZMA2 compression at the maximum level.
(just make sure you don't use RVZ with a too big block size, otherwise you'll experience stutters when the game seeks data from the disc -- if unsure, keep the default 128 KB block size)"

RVZ (Modern Dolphin format) - GC/Wii
The Dolphin team developed a new compression format based on WIA called RVZ. Unlike all the previous formats, RVZ is lossless and can preserve the padding data on Wii discs as well as the necessary files needed by the Wii's IOS. Usage is very similar to GCZ in Dolphin itself, but it only works on newer Dolphin versions.
Archive-quality dump? Yes.
Gain: Immediate (ISO dump size lowers). Considerable, depending on the game.
Tools Used: Dolphin 5.0-12188+
Can be reverted? Yes.
Playable on Hardware? No.
Playable on Emulators? Only Dolphin.
How to revert RVZ back to ISO that would match Redump DAT:
Keeping the junk data it's important for the preservation sake and to verify the data with Redump DATs, but if you intend to play on the real hardware, you're better off converting to ISO with junk data removed.

Subject: Poor compression ratio
Subject: Poor compression ratio
This dump set is an awesome place where you can get all or almost all the games, and they are already converted to the optimal RVZ format, but the conversion to the RVZ format was done with very low or default settings, resulting in a poor compression ratio, so it is not as optimal as it could be.
So I'm writing this review just to launch a suggestion for any user that is looking for file size reduction efficiency:
You should convert back to ISO the RVZ files that you downloaded here, and convert them again to RVZ format using better compression. By using lzma2 format, with 2 MB of block size, without scrubbing, and with a compression level of 9 (the maximum allowed level) you will notice a great benefit of overall file size reduction for this dump set.
You can use my script files to automate conversion of a bunch of ISO or RVZ files:
https://github.com/ElektroStudios/Dolphin_Emulator_RVZ_Utility_Scripts
(you can do a similar thing with Dolphin GUI, but with implied limitations.)
But you can even get a better file size reduction than that... check out the reading below if you want to go far and get maximum file size reduction efficiency for your requirements:
-------------------------------------
I have downloaded 356 games from this dump (ASIA/EUR/US), which takes up 266 GB compressed and 480 GB uncompressed in ISO format, then I decided to reconvert all 356 ISO files to RVZ using: LZMA2 format, dictionary size/block size of 32 MB (33554432 bytes), maximum compression level (9), no scrubbing - and the result was a total of 226 GB, that is, I got a total size reduction of 40 GB, or in other words, 15% more free disk space.
To give an example, "4x4 Evo 2 (USA).rvz" was reduced from 250 MB to 190 MB using these settings.
I used 32 MB block size because handheld retro gaming consoles have low available memory, and I think 32 MB is more than enough between the balance of overall file size reduction and available RAM for these kind of devices.
Note that for 32 MB and 64 MB block sizes your handheld retro gaming machine or PC needs less than 1 GB of available RAM to compress/decompress.
But if you only intend to play these games on a (modern) PC, you can of course opt for larger block sizes like 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB or 512 MB, or even 1 GB if you have enough RAM available (I don't remember the exact formula of RAM required, but at least I think around 3~5 GB available to compress and decompress), and you'll get a bigger size reduction.
From the tests I did playing many games in RVZ format using different block sizes, I'm pretty sure that using larger block sizes above 2 MB IT DOES NOT AFFECT EMULATION PERFORMANCE OR LOAD TIMES. It just needs more RAM available to perform compression and decompression operations.
Please note that the Dolphin's GUI only allows you to use from 32 KB up to 2 MB block sizes. You must use DolphinTool.exe (which is included with the Dolphin package) to use larger block sizes.
That's all, I hope this review can help some people.

Subject: Awesome! Converts easily to iso with Dolphin
These collections seem to be up to date; I'm finding every file I need. I wish I could keep them in *.rvz format but I am using the basic redump dats so I have to use *.iso stored in torrent zip (*.7z) files. These 3 collections are great. Dolphin converts *.rvz to *.iso in like 10 seconds a piece so don't worry about a hassle during conversion, there is none.

For Wii users, yoh might want to know there are a few setbacks. This plentiful list collection will run -almost- all games.
Pac-Man World 2 just crashes, I recomend the Europe version instead, but that one also crashes after a while.
Sonic Riders crashes after a few Story missions. The Europe version doesn't.
So far I've only found those errors, but the rest of the games I've tried have all worked fine for me using Nintendont.

I don't want to compromise the playability, the default settings were chosen by the dolphin dev team for good reasons, you can find more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DolphinEmulator/comments/q02im1/so_what_settings_for_this_are_the_best_what_file/hf50m1z/
@Ashnage Narnesfugen
Archive.org scans the files with antivirus applications after the upload complete, if any malicious data it's found, the whole archive it's taken down, so far this archive remains online, that might answer your question.
@Stage88
I tried to upload a text file after deleting the torrent file, and for some odd reason didn't generate a new one, until this solution gets fixed, I recommend you to use a download manager like jdownloader.
@Carlo Andrea Sabatini
Edit:
There are huge advantages by using RVZ over ISO, specially storage space wise, maybe RomCenter it will support RVZ one day too, that would make things easier for you. There are some archives in this platform that have gamecube ISOs sets, some are a bit outdated, but you can get the missing files from here and convert it back to ISO.
The RVZ can be reverted to ISO that matches with Redump dat, all you need it's to open dolphin, set up the directory where you put the RVZ files, which will fullfill the gameslist, then select the games you want to restore, right click, and convert to ISO, is not much different from extracting from ZIP files actually xD

Thanks for the comment ;)
For higher compression purposes, there are better options, but RVZ it's a playable format, so I didn't want to compromise the performance during gameplay.
That's why I went for the default settings, instead of using compression ratio level 22 or changing the compression algorithm to something else.
Zstandard provides faster compression and decompression performance than LZMA/LZMA2, I assume Dolphin takes advantage of that to unpack data into RAM.

Mate whenever i verify the roms downloaded with the dat from gamecube you provided by redump.org i never get the green on romcenter. They never get recognized which will make it impossible to have updated when dats get updated aswell. They dont seem to be the real redump versions from redump.org dats, otherwise they d be recognized by the dat itself.
Edit: Thanks for it. Yah unlucky that's gonna be real bothering considering the gamecube set is one of the heaviest and everytime i would need to convert to iso everything in order to know what i miss when i want to updated.

LZMA and LZMA2 compression provides notable space savings over Zstandard when it comes to RVZ, but I'm sure you already know that. Thanks for your uploads.
